Here’s a great article on scrapbooking! I’ll be back tomorrow with a very belated Tool Time Thursday!!!
I began my paper crafting adventure many, many years ago with scrapbooking (back when stickers were all the rage – man we’ve come a long way), but I was reminded of its importance at Stampin’ Up! Convention 2012. One of our speakers who came to speak about Gen Y, Jason Dorsey, talked about how moved he was when his mother gave him a scrapbook about his grandfather after his grandfather had passed away. It served as a poignant reminder of the importance of keeping and preserving memories for generations to come. Many of the demonstrators in the audience were moved to tears – me included! If you’ve never scrapbooked before – our My Digital Studio digital designing program is a super easy way to do so. Stampin’ Up! offers a FREE 30-Day trial of our newest software MDS2 – check it out HERE.
Many Benefits to Scrapbooking
by Carole DeJarnatt
The scrapbooking hobby has been around for a long time and people do it for a variety of reasons. If you are an outsider to the world of scrapbooking, then you will not understand until you experience the craft the many reasons a person invests so much time and energy into a scrapbook page.
When I was first introduced to scrapbooking via my church family, I told them I had neither time nor energy to invest in creating pages of photos matched up with paper and cute little embellishments. I thought those people were crazy staying up all hours of the evening, dragging around tons of supplies, just to sit and create scrapbook pages. One evening I was invited to a scrapbook night and I agreed to come with the intent of visiting and watching. No scrapbooking for me. I was a business professional who could not imagine investing time or energy into something I felt was for stay-at-home moms or those who had nothing better to do.
Little did I know I was about to change my mind and attitude…during the evening of socializing and viewing all the pages of creation, something changed in me. One person in particular needed help with color coordinating and matting her photos. I started working with her and ended up finishing her page for her. The scrapbooking bug bit me and it bit hard! The very next day I was out buying all the essential tools to create my very own pages of photos.
What is it about scrapbooking that captures so many people’s devotion and attention?
- Focus–You lose your focus on everything except for the scrapbook page you are working on. You forget the world exist for a few moments and you focus on nothing but what is in front of you.
- Creativity–All it takes is a sheet of paper and a few ideas to get your creative juices going. Whether the ideas are from a magazine, your surroundings, or the scrapbook paper held in your hand; the end result is pure enjoyment.
- History–When I think of a scrapbook, to me it is the history of the day, moment, or event. The page was created for future generations to learn of their family.
- Expressing myself–The scrapbook is made by someone and that in itself is a source of pride and joy. The feeling you get from completing, giving, or sharing your scrapbooks is indescribable.
- Giving–When working on a scrapbook layout, you are giving your thoughts, feelings, and memories to an event to share with others. The joy you feel when others express pleasure and enjoyment from your work is worth all the time and energy.
Scrapbooking has become so sophisticated you do not even need to leave the comfort of your home to get started. If you are experienced with computer programs such as Photoshop Elements, your tools are at the tips of your hands. If you prefer traditional scrapbooking, you still have the ability to order supplies and tools at the comfort of your home and within days you will be completing your own scrapbook.
People today have a variety of reasons for making their own scrapbooks and/or creating creations of beauty with their supplies. The majority of my experience has been to create something to share with future generations. People want to be remembered and through a scrapbook their lives are shared.

Hi there! Hope you had a great weekend! Today’s card is another Convention 2012 swap but this one is a bit different. This one is a CASE card (Copy and Share Everything) – one of the organized swaps I signed up for was all about copying either something out of the catalog or another SU! demonstrator’s work. Hi there! Today’s swap share is one I did for the “In With the New” swap at Stampin’ Up! Convention 2012. It is a swap that requires that the participants use stamp sets new to the catalog. One of my immediate must-haves from the new 2012-2013 Catalog was the Summer Silhouettes stamp set. Another was the single stamp, Beautiful Birthday, so I combined them into this card! To create the background “paper,” I stamped the leaf stamp in VersaMark and embossed it with Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder, then I stamped the larger flowers with the Calypso Coral Classic Stampin’ Pad, and finished off with the starburst flowers in the Whisper White Craft Stampin’ Pad. One tip to get your embossing powder to only stick to the VersaMark is to run the Embossing Buddy over the card stock before stamping to remove static! Leave a comment to let me know what one of your favorite stampin’ tips is!!!

Here’s the first reveal of one of my thirteen card swaps from Stampin’ Up! Convention 2012. You may have already seen it in this week’s Quick Tip Tuesday #9: Ribbon Tying Tip. It uses the fabulous Everything Eleanor Stamp Set that Stampin’ Up! gave us for FREE at Leadership 2012 in January! Now, it is available for everyone in the 2012-2013 Catalog!!! I used a very simple color combination of Crumb Cake and Raspberry Ripple. I LOVE this color combo!!! The only requirement for the Triple Time Stamping technique is that you have a lighter color and a darker color. I used Pool Party and Island Indigo with this technique in THIS POST. This technique, introduced to the stamping world by Dawn Olchefske, is so so beautiful and easy!!! I’ll include the measurements used for this technique by Dawn along with the full supply list below the photo. Just click on any item to be taken to it in my Online Store. Remember to get your orders in for my Super Stampin’ Up! Sale for my birthday – where I give you the presents! It only lasts a few more days! Have a great rest of your weekend!!!

Today I’m reviewing my notes from Day 2 of Stampin’ Up! Convention 2012. The first class I went to “i am earning an incentive trip.” with Karen Hauley and demonstrator incentive trip earners, Cynthia Millan, Jill Hilliard, and Meg Holland. This class was so inspiring and now I’m working towards the 2014 Western Caribbean Cruise!!! I also went to “i am doing business ‘My Way.'” where Ronda Wade and Tami White shared how they organize private classes and clubs, respectively. Great ideas!!! Finally, my third class of the day was “i am having fun.” Shannon West gave us many different ideas for some ways to bring more fun to our stamping events! We also had a mini flash mob in class, so I LOVED this class as I love to dance!
Watch tomorrow for details about a “Sale” in celebration of my 30th birthday next week!!!
Hi Stampers! Today I wanted to show you three card samples I made with this month’s customer promotion. This is the first time I’ve seen Stampin’ Up! do a promotion like this (outside of Sale-a-Bration), so I’m thrilled!!! This stamp set will only be available for a few more days and after that, it is gone forever. The cost of this stamp set is only $5 with a $50 order. More details about this promotion may be found on My Promotions Page. The set itself is a 7 piece stamp set with incredible Two-Step Stampin’ Flowers! The first step (or base image) has almost a gradient look and does not require stamping off (or 2nd generation stamping to be used with the second step (or outline image) in the same color! I have never seen Stampin’ Up! produce stamps like this before! I am loving it and hope they do it again!!! Very cool!!! All supply lists are listed at the bottom of the post. The third card is the one that SU! put on their flyers so I just copied it as I thought it was GORGEOUS! 🙂
